International Symposium on Olfactory Heritage

๐Ÿ‘ƒ Welcome to JolieCon '26

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great honour to invite you to JolieCon '26, the premier (and only) symposium on olfactory heritage convened to mark the 30th birthday of the distinguished scholar Sanjoli Mathur.

Sanjoli has spent her career studying how smells hold on to memory, place, and history. Tonight, friends and family gather to celebrate her 30th birthday.

All speakers were peer-reviewed by smell. We are pleased to report that everyone passed.

๐Ÿ‘ƒ Notice to attendees

Due to budget constraints, JolieCon is a bring-your-own conference. All attendees must bring:

  1. A researcher persona and name tag. You will introduce yourself in character during the Ice Breaker: your name, title, institution, and field of research. The funnier the better. The conference cannot afford lanyards, so please make your own name tag with your name and affiliation.
  2. Questions for the Q&A. Bring your burning questions about smell to put to our resident expert, Sanjoli. At least one per person.
  3. Bring Your Own Cake. Catering has not been funded. A cupcake counts.

๐Ÿงช Submitted Papers

Status: Awaiting submissions

The Program Committee is still waiting for papers. As of today, we have received zero (0) submissions and a large number of "I'll send it tonight" messages.

Call for Papers: New Frontiers in Olfactory Research

We invite attendees to present groundbreaking new research in olfaction. Submissions should be bold, original, and scientifically completely wrong. Confidence is mandatory; accuracy is not.

Example topics:

  • Can you smell a colour? A study of what blue smells like
  • The nose as a renewable energy source
  • Why Mondays smell worse than Fridays
  • Teaching houseplants to sniff

Each presenter gets 10 minutes. Slides, props, charts with unlabelled axes, and made-up statistics are all encouraged. Papers will be presented during the Paper & Poster Presentations session, chaired by Dr. Nikita Jha, and listed here once received.
